Intern Art Show - East Meets West: A Basketball Love Story
Background: At the 3-month mark of the internship, adidas organized an intern art show held in our very own MakerLab.
Challenge: For design interns to showcase any work during our time at adidas or in the past that best represents us as a person and artist to the whole company.
Outcome: As a non-design major, I have never had the opportunity to exhibit my work so I took this as a chance to create something that embodies my passions and identity - basketball, design, photography, and my Chinese heritage. My exhibit is a tribute to the places and cultures that have shaped the person I am today.
This exhibit was titled East Meets West: A Basketball Love Story. Hover over the image to read more about each piece.
Streetball Challenge
Background: adidas released its new STREETBALL shoes at Streetball Challenge - 3 on 3 tournaments that took place in New York City and Los Angeles. Through this activation, the brand brought together some of most notable names in streetwear, sneakers, sports and fashion such as Extra Butter, Overtime, Slam, and Concepts.
Challenge: To create designs that pay homage to an iconic outdoor basketball sneaker silhouette and the grassroots side of basketball.
Outcome: Our design team came up with the idea to present a Creator Box to the first 200 attendees at the events. The Creator Box is a small kit filled with basketball pump, basketball net, stickers, and pins. Every element is integral in telling the story behind the idea of STREETBALL.
My pixel art illustrations of the STREETBALL shoes were featured in the sticker pack.

Retail Posters
Background: As more retail stores open up in China, adidas faces the challenge of finding new content to fill up dead spaces (e.g. corners, fitting rooms, anywhere that’s not the center of attention)
Challenge: Create 100 posters with a range in illustration styles and themes.
Outcome: Delegate 6 categories (e.g. Brand Remix, Women, Typography, Heritage Remix, etc.) to in-house and freelance designers. I took on the typography, brand remix, and footwear supply categories and explored a range of illustration styles. These posters are now part of an ongoing collection that helps adidas set creative direction for graphics and illustration styles.
Sales & Marketing Meeting
Background: Sales & Marketing Meeting is a bi-annual event held at adidas global headquarters, Herzogenaurach, Germany involving executives, clients, and employees.
Challenge: The event graphics need a refresh in color palette, patterns, and photography to fit FW20.
Outcome: I collaborated with the design director in establishing creative direction through color palette and photography curation. I also helped create graphics that were used in mockups, digital, and environment.
Intern Hackathon
Background: An annual event where interns are assigned to groups of 7 to work collaboratively on an intensive business case competition.
Challenge: In this 2-day event, we were given the prompt to help modernize adidas’ company culture focusing on people obsession.
Outcome: My team came up with the idea of a company-wide swap meet because it not only encourages employees across the organization to increase face-to-face interaction with coworkers outside their departments, but also aligns with one of our most important company and consumer value - sustainability.
My experience in advertising agencies and design skills were invaluable to this project. Having knowledge on how to devise strategy and structure a pitch helped us organize our presentation in the most efficient and concise manner possible. Additionally, I had the responsibility of designing the entire pitch deck.
Our business solution came in first place out of eleven teams. 3 months later, adidas organized a company-wide swap meet at the North America headquarters.
The swap meet was brought to life just 3 months later at THE SWAP PDX.
